We're staying in Santa Ana and skating in Irvine and Aliso Viejo. From the hotel, the competition rink is about a 25 to 30-minute drive and the practice rink about 20 to 25 minutes.

How we do competition weekend
Before you leave
Sort these at home.
- Clean skatesWhite boots with black heels and soles, and clean white laces.
- Turn WhatsApp notifications on
- Remove nail polishOr wear clear or nude polish.
- Leave all jewelry at home
At the competition
Once we're in California.
- Phones away on competition dayPut away phones, Apple Watches and other smart devices at the time on your itinerary. You can use them again after we skate. Let family and friends know you'll be unreachable during that window.
- Stick to the itineraryIt's planned around meals, bathroom breaks and travel time. If one person strays from it, the whole team runs late.
- Follow attire, hair and makeup exactlyEach look is planned. If sneakers are called for, don't wear boots. If hair is slicked, use gel.

You're representing Gotham City Synchro, especially in team gear. Keep it classy.
Pay attention to who's around you at the rink, the hotel and restaurants. Keep any honest opinions for your hotel room or the car.

Getting there
Skates go in your carry-on
If TSA questions them, show the TSA guidance on skates.
Bag your liquids, especially gel
Put them in a sealed plastic bag. We've seen gel explode over competition dresses too many times.
